Pakistani Journalist Backtracks on Claim of Imran Khan's Death, "I Only Suspected it" Pak Army Confirms Former PM is Alive

Imran Khan has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, since August 2023. He has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in a corruption case. 

Pakistani journalist Wajahat Saeed Khan, who had predicted the death of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, has backtracked on his claim. The journalist says that he had only expressed the possibility of Imran's death, but had not confirmed the death. The US-based journalist had released a video at 11 pm on Tuesday expressing his fears about Imran Khan's death.

The Pakistani Army has also clarified that Imran Khan is alive. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani Army, has confirmed his survival.

Wajahat Saeed Khan is considered a journalist close to the Pakistani military. He is also considered a supporter of Imran Khan. He lives in the United States to avoid arrest in Pakistan. Wajahat had predicted Imran Khan's death based on information from army officers. Imran has been imprisoned in Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, since August 2023.

Following the Pakistani journalist's claim, Imran's sisters also raised concerns that they were not being allowed to meet their brother. Following the latest developments, Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has warned that if they are not allowed to meet Imran Khan, his supporters will take to the streets.

Journalist Wajahat Saeed Khan said in a video, "At least three senior officers at the Army Headquarters in Rawalpindi suspect that Imran Khan is no longer alive." He later said that this was not confirmed news, but merely an assessment based on suspicions within the army.

Following the journalist's claim, Imran Khan's party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated that if permission to meet him is not granted, more than two million people are prepared to take to the streets. The party has announced a long march to Islamabad on September 27.

Imran Khan's sister, Uzma Khan, visited him in Adiala Jail in November 2025. Upon leaving the jail, Uzma confirmed that her brother Imran was completely fine. The two met for about 20 minutes.

She said, "Imran Khan's health is fine, but he is extremely angry. He is being mentally tortured, and Asim Munir is responsible for all this. He has no access to the outside world."

In early November 2025, Imran Khan's supporters and family members visited him, but the prison administration refused permission. Rumors spread that Imran had died and the Pakistani government was concealing his death. This led to massive protests across Pakistan, prompting a high alert from Rawalpindi to Islamabad.

Imran Khan last appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan via video conferencing on May 16, 2024. During this, he alleged that he was convicted in various cases five days before the general elections, designed to keep him away from the election. Imran also cited the example of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, saying that Kejriwal was also granted bail for campaigning during the Indian elections.

Imran Khan has been in jail since August 2023. He has been sentenced to 14 years in prison in a corruption case, which includes charges of selling government gifts (the Toshakhana case) and leaking government secrets.

Imran is accused of selling billions of rupees worth of Pakistani government land to the Al-Qadir Trust at a low price. He was arrested on May 9, 2023, in connection with this case. Subsequently, several key military installations across the country were attacked.

Pakistan's National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed a case against Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi, and six other individuals in the Al-Qadir Trust case in December 2023. However, when this case was filed against Imran, he was already incarcerated in Adiala Jail in the Toshakhana case.

The Pakistani regime is also facing pressure from outside the country. A bipartisan group of 13 US lawmakers has written to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, urging him to raise the detention conditions of Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi directly with Islamabad. Their letter cited concerns raised by the UN Special Rapporteur on Imran's prolonged solitary confinement and allegations regarding his health.
