Washington: After calling a Bloomberg reporter "piggy," Trump lashed out at another journalist for asking him about the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
In Trump's presence in the Oval Office, journalist Mary Bruce directly questioned the Crown Prince, "US intelligence has concluded that you orchestrated the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The families of 9/11 victims are angry that you are in the Oval Office. Why should the American people trust you?"
Trump was enraged by this question. He interrupted and said, "ABC is fake news. One of the worst networks."
Then, looking at reporter Mary Bruce, he said, "You don't need to embarrass our guest by asking such questions."
He continued, "A lot of people didn't like the man you're talking about," and added, "Whether you like him or not, things happen."
Trump called the reporter "terrible" and her question "extremely bad."
Trump also attacked ABC, calling it a "crappy company." ABC journalist Bruce works as the White House's chief correspondent. Trump threatened the journalist by telling her that the ABC network's broadcast license "should be revoked."
Who was Jamal Khashoggi?
Jamal Khashoggi was a US-based journalist who covered major news stories and was critical of the Saudi Arabian government. On October 2, 2018, he went to the Saudi consulate in Istanbul and was assassinated. Subsequently, conflicting accounts emerged about how Khashoggi died or what happened to him. His death was internationally condemned.
What else did Mary Bruce ask?
Trump targeted Mary Bruce with other questions, not just about the murdered journalist. When she asked him about the Epstein files, he insulted her.
Trump told Bruce, "I'm not bothered by the question, but by your attitude. I think you're a very bad reporter. The way you ask these questions is different." He added, "You're a very bad person and a very bad reporter."
What is the 'Piggy' controversy?
On Friday, journalists were questioning Trump aboard Air Force One. Catherine Lucey asked Trump, "If you don't have anything in Jeffrey Epstein's files, why don't you release them?"
Trump became enraged upon hearing this question. He pointed his finger and said, "Shut up Piggy."
After making a lewd comment about the reporter, Trump continued, "You won't let me finish. You're the worst! You're from Bloomberg, right? I don't understand why you were hired."
What are the Epstein Files?
Documents found during raids on the properties of convicted child sex abuse financier Jeffrey Epstein are being called the Epstein Files. These files led to the identification of his British co-conspirator and former girlfriend, Ghislaine Maxwell, and the investigation into her.
Trump's name has surfaced in the files found so far, along with several other celebrities like Elon Musk and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump's name is included in FBI documents about Epstein that have not been published.
