Due to persistent threats, he was accompanied by two security guards (with an armored vehicle) from the National Protection Unit (UNP). However, on the afternoon of June 6, he had allowed his guards to rest. On June 6, 2026, while he was visiting his mother-in-law's house in the Quinta Oriental neighborhood with his wife and daughter, a gunman, lying in wait, fired indiscriminately at him from behind (approximately 5 to 9 shots).
