Journalists Killed in August 2025

The year 2025 was not a good one for journalists worldwide. Incidents of violence against journalists continued throughout the year. A total of 16 journalists were killed in different parts of the world in March 2025. We are providing brief details of these journalists:
Asaduzzaman Tuhin  
August 7, 2025, Bangladesh
38-year-old Asaduzzaman Tuhin, a staff reporter of 'Daily Protidiner Kagoj' was murdered by slitting his throat at around 8:30 pm on August 7 night in Gazipur town, a suburb of Dhaka. He had gone live on Facebook and exposed extortion from street vendors and local shops. The victim's brother filed a complaint, following which the police arrested five people.
Mohammed Shahadeh 
August 8, 2025, Lebanon
On August 8 morning in southern Lebanon, an Israeli drone strike hit a car on a coastal highway, killing Mohammed Shahadeh, a journalist, photographer and the director of Hawana Lebanon, a local news website. Civil defense teams recovered his body from the targeted car along the Sidon-Tyre coastal road. The attack came a day after Israeli airstrikes in eastern and southern Lebanon killed eight people, including a Syrian national, and wounded 12.
Anas Al Sharif + 5
August 10, Gaza
Al Jazeera's famous journalist Anas Al Sharif along with another correspondent, two cameramen and two local journalists were killed in an airstrike carried out by the Israeli army in Gaza city on August 10 night. Anas Al Sharif along with his fellow journalists and cameramen were in a tent near Shifa Hospital in the eastern part of Gaza city when the attack took place. The names of the other journalists killed along with Anas al-Sharif are Mohammed Qreiqea, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal (All four from Al Jazeera), and Moamen Aliwa, Mohammed Al-Khalidi (local journalists). 
Khawar Hussain 
August 17, Pakistan
Karachi-based Dawn News Channel reporter Khawar Hussain's body was found inside a car in his hometown Sanghar, Sindh, on August 17, 2025. He had a bullet mark on his head. Khawar was also a member of the Karachi Press Club. According to the police, a pistol was also found in his hand.
Mariam Abu Daqa +5
August 25, Gaza
At least 15 people, including six journalists, were killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza's Nasser Hospital on August 25. The journalists killed included Mariam Abu Daqa, for the Associated Press and The Independent Arabic, Moaz Abu Taha–NBC network, Hossam al-Masri, photojournalist for Reuters, Mohammed Salama photojournalist of Al Jazeera. and Middle East Eye freelancer Ahmed Abu Aziz. Israeli forces killed Palestinian correspondent Hassan Douhan, a journalist and academic who worked as a correspondent for Al-Hayat al-Jadida publication, in a separate incident in Khan Younis on the same day, bringing the death toll to six.
Islam Abed 
August 31, Gaza
Al Quds Today TV reporter Islam Abed, 36, was killed along with members of her family in an Israeli drone strike on her apartment complex in Gaza City’s Al-Rimal neighborhood on August 31, 2025. Abed’s last report was published August 15, 2025, covered a free medical day at Al-Wafa Rehabilitation Hospital amid difficult humanitarian conditions. The family had endured nearly two years of forced displacement, moving repeatedly under bombardment. Islam Abed held a bachelor’s degree in journalism and media from the Islamic University of Gaza and had worked as a reporter and editor with Al Quds Today TV for six years. During the war, she covered humanitarian stories, displacement, and civilian casualties.
