Israel Strike in Gaza City Killed Six Journalists including Al Jazeera's Anas Al-Sharif

Gaza: Al Jazeera's famous journalist Anas Al Sharif along with another correspondent, two cameramen and two local journalists were killed in an airstrike carried out by the Israeli army in Gaza city on Sunday August 10 night. Anas Al Sharif along with his fellow journalists and cameramen were in a tent near Shifa Hospital in the eastern part of Gaza city when the attack took place. Al Jazeera has strongly condemned this attack and called it a conspiracy to suppress the voice of journalists.

Anas Al Sharif had posted on X a few minutes before his death that Israel had been bombing Gaza city for more than two hours. Anas Al Sharif had more than 5 lakh followers on his X account.

At the same time, the Israeli army claimed that journalist Anas Al Sharif was an important commander of Hamas. He used to plan rocket attacks on Israeli civilians and soldiers. But Al Jazeera and Palestinian journalist organizations rejected this claim and called it baseless.

Al Jazeera has described this attack as part of the "conspiracy to occupy Gaza". Al Jazeera said that Anas al-Sharif and his colleagues were among the last voices left in Gaza, who were bringing the painful reality of the country to the world.

Hamas said that this murder could be the beginning of a major attack by Israel in Gaza. Hamas said in a statement, "The killing of journalists and intimidation of the survivors is paving the way for Israel's major crime in Gaza."

The names of the other journalists killed along with Anas al-Sharif are Mohammed Qreiqea, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal (All four from Al Jazeera), and Moamen Aliwa, Mohammed Al-Khalidi (local journalists). Al Jazeera described Anas as "Gaza's youngest journalist" and said that this attack is an attempt to silence the voices showing the truth in Gaza.

United Nations expert Irene Khan had warned last month in July that Anas al-Sharif's life was in danger due to his reporting. The 'Committee to Protect Journalists', an organization working for the safety of journalists, had appealed to the international community to protect Anas.

The killing of Anas al-Sharif has once again raised questions about the safety of journalists. The media office of the Hamas government of Gaza claims that 237 journalists have been killed so far in the war that started on October 7, 2023. The latest attack is raising questions about the safety of journalists and tension has increased in Gaza. However, it has been a trend around the world that medical camps and journalists are not deliberately targeted in the battlefields. But in Gaza, the Israeli army is deliberately killing journalists and calling them terrorists.
