India@Cannes2012: Nine shortlists in Media, 31 in Press, 22 in Outdoor Lions

Day two of the 59th International Festival of Creativity at Cannes brings more cheer for India. Shortlists were announced on day two of the Festival in the Media, Mobile, Press, Outdoor and Creative Effectiveness Lions categories.

In Media Lions, nine Indian entries have been shortlisted, while only one Indian entry have been made it to the Creative Effectiveness Lions shortlist. India has 31  entries in the running in  Press Lions, while 22 have made the cut in the Outdoor Lions category. No Indian entry got shortlisted in the Mobile Lions category. 
Media Lions
In the Media Lions category, nine Indian entries have made it to the shortlist.Two entries from BBDO India have made it to the shortlist. ‘World’s Youngest Job Applicant’ for Plan India’s Child Welfare Fun and ‘You Shave. I Shave.’ for P&G’s Gillette Fusion have made the cut.
Ink Pad’ for Door Step School and ‘Happy Sparrows’ for McDonald’s, both entered by Leo Burnett India, are also in the race for metal.
Minus One Project’ for Samsung Printers entered by Cheil Worldwide has earned the agency two shortlists (one each in two sub-categories).

Domex Cleans Up’ for Hindustan Unilever by Mindshare, ‘Honeymoon Down Under Works Wonders’ for Tourism Australia by OMD India and ‘Smokers Balloon’ for Cancer Patients Aid Association entered by DDB Mudra Group are the other shortlists from India in the Media Lions. 
In all, 281 entries have been shortlisted to compete in the Media Lions category this year, from 3247 entries received. The number of Indian entries in this category was 130, up from 103 sent last year. 
Press Lions
As many as 31 Indian entries have been shortlisted in the Press Lions category. DDB Mudra Group leads the Indian charge with 10 shortlists. Five of these are for work on Geebees Beverages’ Coffee Gold. The entries in the running are‘Great Fire of London’, ‘New York Blackout’ and ‘Armenian Internet Shutdown’, in multiple sub-categories. Also among shortlists from the agency are entries ‘Elvis’, ‘JFK’ and ‘Roswell’ for Stedfast’s Shredders. Two entries for client Volkswagen’s VW Touareg are also in the running – ‘Deer’ and ‘Tree’.
Leo Burnett has eight shortlists, all of which have come for work on Bajaj Electricals’ Exhaust Fans. In multiple sub-categories, the entries in the running are ‘Cigarette’, ‘Socks’, ‘Fish’ and ‘Eggs’. Ogilvy & Mather has six shortlists. Three of these are for work on Perfetti Van Melle India’s Mentos Sour Marbles - one each for entries ‘Barbed Wire’, ‘Nails’ and ‘Electric Shock’. The other three are for entries ‘Refrigerator’, ‘Drawers’ and ‘Sofa’ for Mattel Toys’ HotWheels.
BBDO India has four shortlists in the Press Lions category. Two of these are for DHL Express – ‘Box Cuboid’ and ‘Box Triangle’. The other two are for White Collar Hippies’ Corporate Campaign, and the entries are ‘AK-47’ and ‘Nuclear Reactor’. Publicis has two shortlists, both of which are for BooksTalk AudioBooks. The entries are ‘William Shakespeare’ and ‘Arthur Conan Doyle’.
BBH India rounds off the Indian challenge with its ‘Vaseline Bat’ entry for Hindustan Unilever’s Vaseline Petroleum Jelly. Organisers received 6056 entries in the Press Lions category this year, as compared to 5415 entries in 2011. Indian agencies sent 266 entries, one short of last year's 267. 
Outdoor Lions
Of the 588 entries shortlisted in the Outdoor Lions category, 22 were from India. McCann Worldgroup India has four shortlists. Three of these are for work on Western Union Money Transfer - ‘Franklin Gandhi’, ‘Lincoln Fahd’ and ‘Queen Mao’. The fourth shortlist is its entry ‘Keeping the legends alive’ for Saregama India. Leo Burnett has four shortlists in this category, all of which are for work on Bajaj Electricals’ Exhaust Fans - ‘Cigarette’, ‘Socks’, ‘Fish’ and ‘Eggs’. Brand David has four shortlists for work on Soliance Pharma Products’ Peptocid Antacid Tablets. The shortlisted entries are ‘Pig Attack’, ‘Buffalo Attack’ , ‘Deer Attack’ and ‘Goose Attack’.
DDB Mudra Group has three shortlists, all of them for Stedfast Shredders - ‘Elvis’, ‘JFK’ and ‘Roswell’. Ogilvy & Mather too has three shortlists in the category. One of these is ‘Chanting Lighter’ for client Cancer Patients Aid Association. The other two shortlists from the agency are for Yahoo India’s Yahoo Mail – ‘Carry Heavy Attachments’ and ‘Truck Attachment’.
Bates India received two shortlists for Park Avenue Wrinkle-Free Shirts, for entries ‘Hanger’ and ‘Shelf’. Grey India has one shortlist. It’s work on Fujifilm India Finepix S4000 titled ‘360’ is in the running for metal. Also among shortlists is Draftfcb+Ulka, for work on client Mumbai Traffic Police. The entry ‘Falling Hoarding’ is in the race. Indian agencies sent in 219 entries in the Outdoor Lions category. This year, the category received 4843 entries in all compared to 4490 entries last year.
Creative Effectiveness Lions 
In the Creative Effectiveness category, Creativeland Asia’s entry ‘Plan-T’ for Parle Agro’s Hippo Backed Munchies is the lone Indian shortlist. The category received only 92 entries in all, a drop from 142 entries sent last year. Indian entries also came down to two from seven last year. The lone Indian shortlist will be competeing with 12 others shortlisted. 
Mobile Lions
None of the Indian entries made the grade in the Mobile Lions category. Of the 965 entries received in this category, only five were from India. A total of 99 entries were shortlisted in the category this year.
