Sex Swami Nithyananda gets bail after one day in judicial custody


New Delhi: Controversial self-styled godman Nithyananda was granted bail by the district executive magistrate on Friday, a day after he was re-arrested on charges of disturbing peace.Ramanagar Deputy Commissioner Sriram Reddy, also the executive magistrate, passed orders granting bail to Nithyananda on furnishing a bond for Rs 1 lakh and two sureties for like sum and directed him not to disturb peace.


Public Prosecutor Nagaraj Reddy opposed bail for Nithyananda who was arrested on June 13 after he appeared before a court to surrender in an assault case and was yesterday slapped with a fresh case of disturbing peace, leading to his arrest for the second time.The 'sex Swami' on Thursday was remanded to one-day judicial custoday after he was rearrested on charges of disturbing the peace. The rearrest of the 32-year-old godman came hours after the district court granted bail on his petition furnishing one surety and a personal bond of Rs 50,000.


Hours after court granted bail to Swami on Thursday ,  he was slapped with a fresh case of disturbing the peace in Ramanagara and surrounding areas of Nithyananda Ashram at Bidadi near here.He was arrested under different IPC Sections, including 151 (relating to disturbance of the public peace) and sent to one-day judicial custody, Ramanagara Superintendent of Police Anupam Agarwal said. Agarwal said Nithyananda would be taken to Mysore Central Prison to avoid any untoward incidents and added that the case would be heard tomorrow and the Deputy Commissioner would take a further decision in the matter.


Nithyananda, was arrested on Wednesday after he appeared before a court to surrender in an assault case but got bail from court the next day.The self-styled godman, already facing criminal charges, including rape and out on bail after his arrest in 2010, courted fresh trouble when police on June 8 booked him and his followers for allegedly assaulting a mediaperson at a press conference at his ashram at nearby Bidadi. Even as he faced the police action, Nithyananda.
