A sweet and tender moment was recorded on camera when a giant panda mother was spotted accompanying and breastfeeding her baby cub in a forest outside Foping County in northwest China's Shaanxi Province. The panda mother and her son, estimated to be about one year old, were first spotted resting on a hemlock tree. The little cub appeared to be hungry and tried several times to encourage his mother feed him. The panda mother then climbed down the tree followed by her son. After eating some arrow bamboo, she held her little one tenderly as she breastfed him. Satisfied and sleepy after his meal, the young cub made his way back up the tree to enjoy an afternoon nap. It is the first time that such a rare and remarkable scene has been spotted in Foping. Researchers said that wild giant panda mothers usually keep on breastfeeding until the cubs reach around two years old.
