Gordon Brown accuses Murdoch of lying under oath

London: Former British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has accused Rupert Murdoch of lying under oath at a media ethics inquiry, and claimed that a tabloid belonging to the media tycoon had undermined the war effort in Afghanistan. Brown directly contradicted Murdoch's claim that Brown had vowed to ‘make war on your company’ during an abusive phone call. Murdoch had earlier claimed that Brown made the remarks during a telephone conversation after The Sun tabloid switched its support from Brown’s Labour Party to the rival Conservatives. Brown, however, claimed that ‘this did not happen’ and that he had been shocked to hear Murdoch make the allegation to the inquiry in April.
