600 years old ancient Chinese Buddha statue discovered in southern China...

An ancient Chinese Buddha statue dating back around 600 years has been discovered in southern China's Jiangxi province after the water level in a reservoir dropped, state media reported. The head of the statue was spotted in the Hongmen Reservoir at the end of last year during renovation work on hydropower gate, state run Xinhua news agency said.

CCTV quoted archeologists as saying the design of the Buddha's head suggests it was carved during the Ming Dynasty (1356-1644). They also said evidence of architecture was found on the cliff, suggesting a temple could have existed. Some temple remains were found underwater, CCTV said. Various equipment, including sonar devices, will be used to obtain underwater images and gather more data for further research, it added.
